    Creating A Cohesive Decorative Scheme

    Creating A Cohesive Decorative Scheme

Decorating isn’t simply throwing artwork on the walls or stacking books on the mantle and calling it good. A well decorated space is cohesive. Everything in that space looks like they belong there. All the pieces look and feel like they belong together, almost like they’re from the same family of sorts. I believe that cohesiveness creates the feel for a space. Majority of my clients come to me because they tried to decorate their homes or spaces themselves and didn’t achieve the results they envisioned. The thought of putting together a space is overwhelming because they lack the skillset, or they simply don’t have the time to tackle such projects. Whatever the reason, my goal is always to bring their vision to life!

In a recent project, my client came to me because she lacked the time and the skillset to decorate her rental property. She wanted to create a welcoming and cozy feel for her guests. When I think of welcoming, I think of bright and airy. There’s something about bright spaces that scream, “Come on in!” When I think of “cozy” I think of spaces that illuminate warmth and comfort. With this in mind, I set out to turn her rental into an ‘English Abode’.

The home was already light and airy, so I focused on bringing the “cozy” piece by adding knit accessories and earth toned items to ground the space. Cozy can be created by color and also texture! I brought in rattan pieces along with clay items and mixed up the color of the wood tones. You can mix and match textures and colors to give a space dimension and depth. I added faux greenery to break up a very neutral palette and to give some color and life to the spaces. I made sure to incorporate these elements into all the rooms of the home to ensure cohesiveness. By keeping the décor neutral for my client, the home will always be guest ready regardless the season. Now, when you walk into the home, everything just feels like they belong there.
