What To Look For And What Not To Look For When Touring Homes
There is always the question, “Am I looking for the right things when looking at a house?” There is always so much to look at when looking for your dream house, but some things are minor changes compared to other significant changes. It can be hard to decipher what a significant restyle can be versus a slight modification when you are focused on a vision of your dream home. Sometimes you have to look past the outdated wallpaper in the bathroom and look at the bones and structure of the house. Lori Dibbs and Associates, LLC has tips to help you focus on what not to look for and what to look for when touring potential homes.
Here are three tips on what NOT to look for when touring a home:
1. Paint Color
The paint color is a cosmetic change that can be altered quickly and inexpensively. It may be hard to look past the neon green and neon pink painted walls in the kitchen, but it is an easy fix that buyers should not be worried about and focus on.
2. Landscaping
Landscaping can change with the weather, especially in Wisconsin as there is a chance of snow in May. Landscaping can be taken out, and replaced with new landscaping, for it is a minor alteration and should not be the focus when buying a house.
3. Furniture
The furniture, in most cases, does not come with the house, so do not fixate on how you do not like the furnisher. On the contrary, fixate on how you would furnish the home to resemble your style.
Now that we know what not to look at while buying a house, here are three tips on what to look for when buying a home:
1. Conditions of expensive items
Look at the inspector notes, how old things are, and what condition they are. Some items to keep in mind are the roof, furnace, cracks in the foundation, windows, plumbing, and uneven floors. These are expensive items to fix that come with the house which buyers need to keep in mind when considering their budget and the price of the home.
2. Think for the long run
Think about what your future holds, are you thinking of having kids, whether relatives usually stay with you while they visit, etc. Think about the neighborhood, amount of bedrooms, square footage, and if you want to expand, could you?
3. Price and taxes on the property
Keeping in mind the price is key when looking to buy a home, as well as, the taxes on the property, for could you be able to afford to pay the taxes. Are there changes you want to make to the house, how much will those changes cost, and do you have enough money to make those changes under the price of the home?
